Emergency Medicine - The Pulse of Our Community
Emergency Medicine is administered “in the moment of crisis.” For most emergency patients, who are facing a true once-in-a-lifetime illness or injury, the goal is fast, focused, and decisive care. But for an increasing number of people, the Emergency Room experience needs to be something more, something else. Our Emergency Room has become a place they return to time and again because they don’t have access to things like primary care, mental health resources or the kinds of basic needs such as housing, food, transportation, that define quality of life. We treat the medical need, but it’s the other needs that go unaddressed which keep them coming back, and prevent them from getting better. For them … speed isn’t the goal, access to proper resources is.
Our Solution: A New Model
The Pulse Emergency Room Campaign combines renovation with new construction in a totally new model of emergency care. The new space will allow us to treat real emergencies as they occur. That's critical for our resident and for our visitors. But just as importantly, it will give us the platform to connect our community with proactive, long-term resources for better health. We have three objectives for this work:
- Provide better care. We want to reinvent the patient experience and improve outcomes. We also want to reduce misuse of the emergency room.
- Improve our community's health. We want to help people value healthy living vs. waiting to be sick.
- Make care more affordable. We will reduce costs by retaining the public to seek the right care, at the right time, and in the right place.
